The three most discussed and easy to implement Strategies for Increasing your Adsense Earnings are

Bigger Ad Units, perform better as compared to the smaller Ad Units. They tend to get more attention from the user and therefore helps you increase your CTR. Below embedded video from Google talks about the same.

Google Adsense Blog says

Publishers often ask us what the best ad sizes are to include in their site’s design, and we always point them to these three:

  • 300×250 medium rectangle
  • 728×90 leaderboard
  • 160×600 skyscraper

2.) Get your Color Schemes right.

Its important to get the color schemes of your Ads right. Your color schemes should complement the color of your website.

In short, Google Says

When you design your AdSense ads, keep these tips in mind:

  • Use colours that either blend with or complement your site’s colours. Make the ads a part of your site.
  • Use lighter colours for borders, or no border at all.
  • Try rotating colours or occasionally switching the location of your ads on the page.
  • Save sets of frequently-used colours as a palette.

3.) Ad Placement Matters

Even if you have the above two points covered, your ads might still not perform well if they are not placed at the right place. You need to place your ads where users will see them.

Orkut meets Gtalk

Orkut now has a fully integrated chat engine. In order to get started with Chatting over Orkut, you dont need to install or open seperate window. It all happens as it happens within Gmail.

Orkut Integrates chat feature with Gtalk.

Orkut Integrates chat feature with Gtalk.

If you are worried about people bombarding you over Orkut chat, this is what Google Orkut Blog has to say

I’m sure many of you (especially you social butterflies with hundreds of orkut friends), are concerned about being bombarded with chat requests every time you go online. Not to worry! To get you started, we’ve come up with a formula that automatically predicts which of your orkut friends you probably want to chat with, and only tells those people that you’re signed into Google Talk. Our formula takes a bunch of things into consideration, giving preference to people who you’ve labeled as ‘best friends’ or written scraps to recently, and people who have friends in common with you.

With Orkut enabling Google Talk, these are the features that you can go through

  • chat with your orkut friends in real time from directly within orkut
  • control which of your orkut friends can chat with you
  • chat with your Google Talk and Gmail chat contacts
  • visit different orkut pages while keeping your chatboxes open

You can also check out the below embedded video from Youtube, which explains how Gtalk chat works in Orkut.

It will be interesting if Orkut adds the Video Chatting like Gmail as well. Another item to the wishlist.

ZunaVision Allows you to Embed Videos or Pictures inside Videos

ZunaVision is a technology that allows users to seamlessly and photorealistically “embed” pictures, logos, videos and advertisements within their videos.

Stanford artificial intelligence researchers, computer science graduate students Ashutosh Saxena and Siddharth Batra, and Assistant Professor Andrew Ng have developed software that makes it easy to reach inside an existing video and place a photo on the wall so realistically that it looks like it was there from the beginning.

The software can easily plunk an image on almost any planar surface in a video, whether wall, floor or ceiling. And the embedded images don’t have to be still photos—you can insert a video inside a video.

The below embedded video has more some interesting usage of ZunaVision. For those on Reader software, check this link.

The technology can cheaply do some of the tricks normally performed by expensive commercial editing systems.

Gmail Launches Voice and Video Chat.

Gmail, the email application from Google, now allows users to do both voice and video chat using a voice and video plugin. This is an interesting move by Gmail which earlier allowed users to have fun with more emoticons and invisible mode for Gtalk inside Gmail.

Gmail Video Chat

Gmail Video Chat

The Official Gmail blog says

All you have to do is download and install the voice and video plugin and we take care of the rest. And in the spirit of open communications, we designed this feature using Internet standards such as XMPP, RTP, and H.264, which means that third-party applications and networks can choose to interoperate with Gmail voice and video chat.

Once you install the plugin, to start a video chat, just click on the “Video & more” menu at the bottom of your Gmail chat window, and choose “Start video chat.” You’ll have a few seconds to make sure you look presentable while it’s ringing, and then you’ll see and hear your friend live, right from within Gmail.

The below embedded video also gives a clear view about the entire action. For those of you checking out this post on reader, click here to see the video.

So now go ahead and Talk face to face right inside Gmail with free, high quality video and audio.

Video sharing site Brightcove to end Free Network Service

We had earlier mentioned about BrightCove in the post on 3 websites which outsmart Youtube, today, Brightcove has decided to shut down its Free Network Service.

Brightcove

Brightcove

On the company’s official blog, Adam Berrey, SVP of Marketing & Strategy said

We will be discontinuing the free Brightcove Network offer and its showcase website, Brightcove.TV, on December 17, 2008.

We have tremendous respect for the content and sites that our Network publishers have produced, so the decision to discontinue the Network was a difficult one. But we are providing an opportunity for Network publishers to easily and affordably migrate to Brightcove 3, the new version of our online video platform.

What this means is that all the videos uploaded by non-premium subscribers ( subscribers who are not the paid premium subscribers on December 17th 2008) will get deleted. If you have any videos embedded on your blogs/websites from such publishers, they too would cease to load.
