[How-To] Create Powerpoint Presentation in Five Minutes

This post talks about creating Powerpoint Presentations in relatively very less time. Below is an embedded video from Youtube which talks very clearly about creating Powerpoint presentations using in-built templates and SmartArt.

Another interesting post worth having a look at is available at Lifepal, it talks about Creating Powerful Powerpoint Presentation by Nancy Duarte.

Some point to note when you go in for the presentation

1.) Remember to KISS, i.e. Keep it short and Simple.

2.) Use more of graphic than the text: More text means more attention diversion.

3.) Keep the humor going: Its important that while delivering presentation, you keep your Humor Quotient up. This helps the audience stay focussed.

4.) Practice makes a man perfect: Before you deliver your presentation, do rehearse it once in front of a mirror or some friends and seek feedback for further improvement.

Searching for Source Code? Try these 6 websites.

As per a study, Most developers spend 65% of their time reviewing existing code they didn’t write. In such scenarios, often we find ourselves, looking out for code examples either in our favorite books or doing a search over the Internet.

Source Code

Source Code

The Ultimate Student Resource List

Check out this ultimate and exhaustive list of free software and useful websites. Though, the title sounds more for students but believe me the list is relevant for everyone and not just limited to students.

Student Resources

Student Resources

Some of the very interesting softwares covered are FreeMind; free mindmapping software, Zotero; A bibliography manager that integrates with Firefox, allowing you to automatically add webpages and, more usefully, resources from academic databases like J-Stor and AnthroSource to your bibliography.

Interestingly, the list also covers some very useful internet research resources like encyclopedias and online study guides. Worth a look, especially for those who are looking out for Student resources.

Some additions to the list maybe

1.)  del.icio.us: del.icio.us is a great service for bookmarking interesting articles and other useful links on your university’s webpage. Tag lots to make searching for bookmarked links or articles easier, later. Its better than bookmarking stuff on your browser. You can also check out other reader’s bookmarks.

2.) Invest in a good flash and load it up with portable apps like
OpenOffice, Firefox, and Pidgin amongst others.

3.) Calendar. Having a good calendar (as well as a to do list) is a big booster in staying organized and keeping on top of assignments. Try using
Google Calendar

Do check this complete list at Lifehack.

Google App Engine now supports HTTPS

Google App Engine Blog has announced the support of HTTPS protocol for Google App Engine. Google App Engine will now also accept HTTPS connection using a certificate which is valid for all appspot.com.

For those of you who are new to the term “Google App Engine” , this explanation should help

Google App Engine lets you run your web applications on Google’s infrastructure. App Engine applications are easy to build, easy to maintain, and easy to scale as your traffic and data storage needs grow. With App Engine, there are no servers to maintain: You just upload your application, and it’s ready to serve your users.

You can serve your app using a free domain name on the appspot.com domain, or use Google Apps to serve it from your own domain. You can share your application with the world, or limit access to members of your organization.

App Engine costs nothing to get started. Sign up for a free account, and you can develop and publish your application for the world to see, at no charge and with no obligation. A free account can use up to 500MB of persistent storage and enough CPU and bandwidth for about 5 million page views a month.

To get started with Google App Engine, check out the Google App Engine page.

Here’s how HTTPS on Google App Engine works:

  • app.yaml files now support a new handler attribute, called “secure”:
    - url: /accounts/.*
      script: admin.py
      login: admin
      secure: always

This attribute can be set to either alwaysoptional, or never (default), and determines the behavior of the handler for HTTP and HTTPS requests. See our documentation for more details.

  • HTTPS requests have their own bandwidth quotas, but also count toward your total bandwidth quotas. You can monitor these quotas on your Admin Console Dashboard.

This video below gives a good understanding about how to develop and deploy an application using Google App Engine.

Do you already have your applications hosted on Google App Engine?
