4 steps to a Healthy PC

In this post, I will write about 4 simple steps which can help you keep your PC humming always. The 4 steps are pretty straight and can be listed using a Safety OS, Downloading Security Updates, Backing up and Keeping your drivers fresh.

Healthy PC

  • Play Safe: Not many day to day users are aware that Microsoft also provides a Virtual PC tool. Using Microsoft’s free Virtual PC 2007 you can run another session of Windows within Windows. You can try all your unsafe programs in this internal session. This internal session of Windows looks ,runs and crashes just like normal windows. But, the best thing is that if something gets hosed in your virtual session, you can just delete and reinstall Virtual PC ( it’s an installation file 🙂 )

  • Fortify using Updates: Its a known fact that PC which is updated regularly keeps itself distant from Security breaches. There is a free Web service called Secunia Software Inspector which scans a PC, examines dozens of programs which includes Windows and other Microsoft Apps. It then reports on installed or missing updates and lets you know where to get them.
  • Back it up: Make it a habit to backup your data. The best strategy for backing up your data is to do a full image backup, create an incremental backup every day and create a new full-image backup once a week.
  • Update the Drivers: Using Touchstone Software’s Driver agent service you can fix Your Driver Problems Instantly. This service finds driver updates for your display, system board and other hardware. However, the catch is that this service comes with a fees and you will have to shell off 1125rs (USD 29.95)

These are the four steps which i feel can definitely help you keep your system healthy.

Cheers,

Vaibhav

  4. I also like to run VPC for anything questionable. It’s better to have your VPC destroyed instead of your real system. I always keep a backup copy of that VPC and then just revert to the copy when it is destroyed.
